Joel A Taft Bio

Mr. Taft served as Product Safety Director for Mattel. Responsible for all aspects of product safety for Mattel, Fisher-Price, American Girl and Mega Blocks Brands. During my tenure at Mattel/Fisher-Price, safety related contacts from consumers were reduced by 90%.

This reduction was due in large part to my contributions and dedication to address product safety issues as they arose, preventing future product safety issues by establishing new internal requirements, identifying potential product safety issues during the design and development of new products, and promoting product safety awareness throughout the company through a comprehensive safety training program conducted globally.

Mr. Taft was also responsible for fulfilling the company’s reporting obligations to the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada.

He has been active for 25 years in the ASTM Standards development process for toys and juvenile products. He previously served as Subcommittee Chair for Bouncer Seats and Non-Powered Scooters.
